ASICS control racket for 2018 in its “HARD” version. Composed of carbon and fiberglass and a core of hard EVA gum. It has a round shape and a rough surface with glossy finish.
By picking up you get the feeling of a manageable and well-finished racket just like the other two versions. The swing is centered, a little above the usual for rackets of this format. By placing the overgrips, you will be able to slightly optimise the swing towards the handle. If you cannot put more than 1 overgrip the option is also for placing tungsten tapes under the Overgrip (s) to lower the paddle balance. On the contrary if you want to add more power, place the ribbons on the top of the racket below or above the protector. This is a pretty viable option for when you like a lot of all the other features of a racket, less its swing.
In play is a racket with a medium touch to tend to hard. It counts with a solid hit. The output is medium-short, below the “SOFT” and “STANDARD” versions. It features a large, online sweet spot with round rackets. In terms of power, it still lacks a lot, but it is slightly above the other versions. By having the balance centered, it allows an extra power in the finishing zone.
In the net:
In the net trays and volleys come out easily, having an average tending to short, you have to put a little more force to reach the desired depth. Being a manageable racket allows you to react quickly. Your ample sweet spot makes it very permissive if you do not perform a proper technique.
Back of the court:
The control is quite positive from the bottom of the court, you will have to put a little more force than in the other versions to reach the desired depth, which is not necessarily bad for those who do not like very high output and want a round racket.
The weight tested was 371gr.
The surface is rough with glossy finish.
In sound terms is a racket that has a medium sound and with a high timbre.
The safety cord is adjustable with a very discreet and innovative rubber system.
In terms of durability, it seems to be a solid racket, very well built and robust that will not break very easily. Well-esteemed will last a long time in my opinion.
- Wide sweet spot
- Adjustable cord System
- Lacks power
In conclusion, this is a racket for middle level players until advanced who want an easy and solid racket with good control from the back of the court, a controlled output and still have a little power on the net. Just do not recommend for anyone who is starting with the price, agreeing with a high-end racket. It has a medium-soft hit and an average output. It’s a racket with very good control.
Handling is not the best I’ve seen in a round racket due to its centered swing, but it’s what allows extra power on the net. In the defensive phase, it will help a lot, not so much as the “SOFT” and “STANDARD” versions for their lower output. It allows more control over lobs and deeper strokes, where it will be necessary to finish the beat correctly to achieve that extra depth.
In the net you can obtain a reasonable power. Volleys and trays come out accurate and controlled. You can do with some effort, draw by 3, 4 and bring the ball back. The rugged face also helps in the intended effects.
The visual part is attractive and homogeneous across the ASICS line. I still think that something is missing that allows it to stand out more at this level.
I felt some vibradtion in my arm. A little more than the “SOFT” and “STANDARD” versions no doubt. It serves mainly right-wing players or starters, who like a racket that helps them especially in the defensive stage but with a controlled exit. I just don’t advise who’s starting with the price. If you are looking for an easy-to-control racket, this racket may be ideal for you. Good games!
