Racket of the line “DEFIANCE”, brand BABOLAT, recognized brand of tennis articles, in its CARBON version of 2020. Consisting of a fully carbon structure and a BLACK EVA gum core. It has a round shape. It has a rough surface with bright finish. Just like its predecessor continues with asymmetric drilling.
When you take it for the first time you get the feeling of a light and manageable racket. The balance is directed to the handle, in line with its round shape.
By placing the overgrips, you will be able to slightly optimise the swing towards the handle. If you fail to place more than 1 overgrip the option also falls for putting the included weights to lower the paddle balance. On the contrary if you still want to add more power, put the weights included at the top of the racket at the spot indicated on the protector. This is a very viable option for when you like a lot of all the other features of a paddle, less the swing.
In game is a racket with a hard touch, slightly less than the predecessor, but remains quite hard. The sweet spot remains quite wide, coming to impress. When it comes to power, it will never be its strongest area, however its hardness allows, with good technique, to print an interesting intensity to the ball. It has a short output, slightly above the 2019 version.
IN THE NET:
In the net trays and volleys come out accurate and controlled, the aggressiveness depends on you, but requires effort. The rugged face helps in the intended effects. The handling is fantastic and allows you to react quickly to all the balls, and the wide sweet spot is also a “plus” in this area. In the smash, with the correct technique, its hardness/ stiffness, allows to take a good performance.
BACK OF THE COURT:
Control from the back of the court is exceptional, almost like a “glove” getting the ball where it wants to be. The output is short but this only gives you additional control, and the blow is totally in the hands and technique of the player.. The high sweet spot and handling make it a fairly easy racket, suitable for players of all levels. For lobs and defensive blows do not get short, you want a correct technique and complete the stroke.
The weight tested was 361gr.
The surface is rough with glossy finish.
In sound terms is a racket that has a high sonority and with a medium timbre.
The safety cord is adjustable which is always best in our opinion.
In terms of durability, it seems to be a solid racket. Well cared for, it can last a long time with good performance.
- Excellent sweet spot
- Fantastic control
- Above average handling
- Adjustable Safety Cord
- Lack power
- Short exit (for those who do not like)
In conclusion, this is a control racket, with few changes compared to the previous version. A slightly less hard touch and a small increase in output is what you can expect. It’s a racket that doesn’t compromise in the net, and that helps and very defensively. It serves in our opinion, mostly, right-wing players.
The touch is still hard. The sweet spot is huge. In the defensive phase the control is exceptional The lack of output, only adds control, and allows the player to fully define the intensity, only have to pay attention to the lobs not to come out short. The touch is hard, and it is advisable to pay attention to this point if you have elbow problems, although the racket is not uncomfortable. In the net, it lacks power clearly, but that’s more than expected. Volleys and trays come out very accurately. It can be achieved with some effort (for experienced players), draw by 3, by 4 and bring the ball back.
The visual part is well achieved, more sober than the previous model.
The tact is hard, but it is not uncomfortable as we mentioned earlier, however, given the stiffness, one feels some vibration in the elbow. The low balance helps to spare the tendon.
A racket/glove for those players who like to imitate a wall and defend everything. Very acceptable price, with a superior finish quality on the part of BABOLAT.
