Racket of the “BEAR” line, from the KELME brand, in its version of 2018. Composed exclusively of fiberglass and a black EVA XTRA SOFT rubber core, a low density gum. It has a hybrid shape between teardrop and diamond. It has a rough surface with a glossy finish.
By picking it up for the first time you get the feel of a sturdy racket but something hard to handle. The balance is directed towards the head. By placing the overgrips, I recommend 3, you will be able to optimize the balance towards the handle. If you can not put more than 1 overgrip the option is also to place tungsten strips under the overgrip(s) to lower the racket swing. On the contrary, if you still want to add more power, place the tapes on top of the racket underneath or over the protector. This is a fairly viable option for when you really like all the other features of a racquet, less its swing.
In game is a racquet with a touch that surprises for being very soft, something not very usual in these formats. It has an average sweet spot because of its mixed format. In terms of power it’s fine. It has a medium output. In the net trays and volleys come out accurate and deep. The control is not its best quality on the back of the court, but its soft touch and medium output will help you to counteract some lack of handling. The lobs come out well directed and quite deep.
The weight tested was 363gr.
The surface is rough with gloss finish.
In sound terms it is a racket that has a loud sound and a medium-high timbre.
The safety cord is simple and does not allow for easy adjustment.
In terms of durability, it seems to be a very solid and well built racket which leads to wanting to have a long lifespan when well estimated.
- Good power
- Comfortable touch
- Poor handling
- Non-adjustable safety cord
In conclusion, this is a racquet designed for players from mid-high level who want good power with some commitment of control and a comfortable touch. It has a soft stroke and a medium output. In defensive phase leaves something to be desired for its reduced handling but its medium output and soft touch will help to balance this point. In the net it is possible to obtain enough power with relative facility. With good technique, you can easily draw by 3, by 4 and bring the ball back without major problems. The visual part is very well achieved, i think the fluorescent green contrasts very well with black. I did not feel much vibration in the arm, but it is not totally free from it. It serves, in my opinion, mainly left-wing players who want power with some control and comfort in the defensive stage. Another excellent racket of the brand KELME that has surprised me positively. Good games!
